It’s crazy to think that Spider-Man, who’s been helping New Yorkers for decades now, actually started out as just a comic book character. But there was always something so easy to relate to and really cool about Spidey. It’s no wonder word spread about him so quickly. Before we knew it, he was too big for just those pages and started showing up on the big screen.
And the best part is that you can now set a very long movie night only by watching all Spidermen releases. And here are the platforms where these movies are streaming at the moment.
Where to Watch?
Most of the films from the MCU, including those featuring Spider-Man, are available on Disney+. The Sam Raimi trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man series can typically be found on platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime, depending on regional availability.
“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” is often available on Netflix and similar services. For the latest releases and spin-offs like the “Venom” series, viewers might need to check digital rental services or purchase the films on platforms such as Amazon, iTunes, or Google Play.
Earlier Releases
The journey of Spider-Man in cinema began before the 21st century, but these early ventures are less known. Notable among these are television movies like “Spider-Man” (1977) and “Spider-Man Strikes Back” (1978). These movies, though primitive in terms of special effects and storytelling compared to modern standards, were the first steps in bringing Spider-Man to life on screen.
The Sam Raimi Trilogy
The modern versions started with director Sam Raimi’s trilogy and release called the “Spider-Man” in 2002. This film introduced audiences to Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. It was followed by “Spider-Man 2” in 2004 and “Spider-Man 3” in 2007.
The Amazing Spider-Man Series
After the conclusion of Raimi’s trilogy, the franchise was rebooted with “The Amazing Spider-Man” in 2012, featuring Andrew Garfield.
The sequel, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” was released two years after.
Integration with Marvel Cinematic Universe
The next significant development came with Spider-Man’s integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Tom Holland took up the mantle in “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), before starring in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” (2017). This integration marked a new era for Spider-Man, as it brought him into a larger universe of characters and stories.
The movies that came after – Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home – really took Peter’s story in some amazing new directions. Both dealt with what it means to juggle being a hero while also just a regular high school/college kid trying to figure life out. But No Way Home in particular hit differently with its whole dimension-crossing madness that had Spidey teaming up with himself in ways none of us fans ever saw coming.
Spin-offs and Animated Ventures
Apart from the mainline films, the Spider-Man universe has also expanded into spin-offs and animated films. “Venom” (2018) and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (2021), though not directly featuring Spider-Man, are set in the same universe.
The animated film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (2018) introduced audiences to Miles Morales and the concept of multiple Spider-Men from different dimensions. This film was praised for its innovative animation style and fresh take on Spider-Man mythology.
Final Words
I think it’s rad how Spider-Man’s movie journey has been right alongside superhero flicks getting bigger and more epic. From the early TV shots to where we’re at now with blockbusters that smash records, he’s been leading the way.
